Lady Bliss Balls -
Seed Cycling for Hormon Balance

What is Seed Cycling?

Seed cycling involves eating certain seeds for balancing estrogen and progesterone levels during the different phases of the menstrual cycle. When hormones are balanced, estrogen levels rise during the first half of the cycle (follicular phase) and progesterone levels during the second half of the cycle (luteal phase). The follicular phase starts on the first day of menstruation and ends on Day 14, followed by the luteal phase (Day 14 to Day 28).

Even though the scientific research doesn't show hard evidence of a direct influence of seed cycling on improved hormonal balance. There is however scientific support that certain seed components promote a hormone balance during the menstrual cycle. Balanced hormones can help for instance with premenstrual syndrome (PMS), increase fertility and regulate irregular cyclesare and therefore favourable for every woman, no matter if menstruating, pre-menopause, postpartum and post-menopause.

Which seeds specifically?

Flax and pumpkin seeds are used in the follicular phase. The phytoestrogens in flax seeds adapt to the body’s estrogen and if estrogen levels get to high, the lignans in the flax seeds can bind to the excess so that it can be eliminated from the body. The pumpkin seeds, due to their high zinc content, support the progesterone production in the next phase.

Sunflower and sesame seeds are cycled in the luteal phase. High in vitamin E, sunflower seeds support progesterone levels while sesame seeds, high in zinc and selenium, block excess estrogen.

Seed cycling can therefore be a gentle way to balance hormones using real food. It is recommended to consume one tablespoon of ground seeds of each seed type a day. And this where our Lady Bliss Balls come into play.
